Red October's End

This is not exactly a recent work as I shot this series in early November1989. But for over the past 25 years I thought I had lost the films. Recently I finally found them back which was an incredible relief.

Berlin at that time was boiling, right after the big celebration at the Brandenburg Gate on the 11/09, the first East Berliners were flooding through the different breaches in the wall. They were offered 100 Deutsche Mark by West Germany as a welcome gift.  I took the opportunity to go upstream and see how the East side was like. That was just an enormous trip, everything seems paused since the second world war. Buildings were still riddled with bullet holes, Pergamon museum was disembowelled… Streets were totally empty and one could feel the communism lead weight.
